Graduate Requirements for International Applicants

  • Graduate Admission Requirements for International Students

    The Office of International Programs will assist international applicants with the application process. International graduate students must meet general and departmental requirements for matriculation into an NJCU degree program. An international graduate applicant seeking admission to NJCU must submit the following to the Office of Graduate Studies:

    • An application for admission to graduate studies including a non-refundable application fee. (Check or money order payable to “NJCU.”) A downloadable version of the application instructions is available here.
    • A 250- to 500-word essay discussing your goals and objectives for pursuing admission to a degree program. 
    • A passport-size photograph. (Approximately 2’’x2’’ with applicant’s name on back.) 
    • Two official copies of all transcripts from U.S. schools. Transcripts from schools outside the U.S. must be evaluated by a NACES- approved agency Evaluations should be course-by-course with a final GPA and show the equivalent of a cumulative grade-point average of 2.75.
    • Official copy of appropriate program test scores (GRE, MAT, or GMAT.) A waiver is available for students meeting certain requirements. Please see
    • Official scores of either the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) or the International English Language Testing System (IELTS). The minimum TOEFL score is 79. The minimum IELTS band score is 6.0 
    • Completed “Request for Matriculation” form. 
    • Two recommendation letters, preferably from previous instructors. 
    • Other required standardized test scores as specified. 

    Program-Specific Requirements

    • A professional resume is required for: accounting, criminal justice, finance, health science, and professional security studies. 
    • Applicants for art or music programs should see additional application requirements (portfolio or audition.)

    After Acceptance

    After acceptance into a graduate degree program, students must apply for a form I20. Details are available at While studying at NJCU, students with F-1 status must comply with the requirements of the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS).
